To dry nail polish quickly, spray wet nails with cooking oil

Discourage swallows. Barn and cliff swallows can be a lot of fun to watch-but not when they set up housekeeping where you'd rather they didn't, like in the eaves of your house or under your front porch. To say a gentle "Please build elsewhere," first remove any nesting material from the spot (as long as it hasn't already been filled with eggs, that is!) Then coat the cubbyhole's surface with cooking oil spray. When the birds try to rebuild the nest, the new material will slide right out.

Make digging easier. Just give your shovel, trowel, or spading fork a spritz of cooking oil spray every now and then. Those blades'll glide through the soil!

De-squeak hinges. They're annoying, all right, but indoors or out, there's a fast, easy solution: Just give the noisy things a shot of cooking oil spray. Ahhh-blessed silence!

Loosen a screw. don't you hate it when you have to struggle....and struggle, to get a stubborn screw or bolt loose? Well, struggle no more! Instead, blast the blasted thing with cooking oil spray, wait a few minutes to let it penetrate, and then have at it. It should come right out..

Lose the Labels.
To remove adhesive labels and tags from plastic or metal surfaces, coat the tag thoroughly with cooking oil spray. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so, then slide it off with a plastic scraper or one of those numerous (but nonfunctional) credit cards that bands send you in the mail.

To get a paper label unstuck from wooden furniture, saturate the paper with coooking oil spray, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes, and gently peel it off.

This was writtenby Becky Ramsey of Indiana (a doctor's wife), and I want to share itwith you. She was over recently for coffee and smelled the bleach Iwas usingto clean my toilet and counter tops. This is what she told me. 'I would liketo tell you of the benefits of that Plain little ole bottle of 3%peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. What doesbleach cost? My husband has been in the medical field for over 36years, and most doctors don'ttell you about peroxide.

Have you ever smelled bleach in a doctor's office?NO!!!Why? Because it smells, and it is not healthy! Ask the nurses who workin the doctor's offices, and ask them if they use bleach at home. Theyare wiser and know better!

Did you also know bleach was invented in the late 40's? It's chlorine,folks! And it was used to kill our Troops. Peroxide was invented during WWI in the 20's. It was used to save and help cleanse the needs of our troops and hospitals.

Please think about this:

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle)and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I doit when I bathe.) No more canker sores, and your teeth will be whiterwithout expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash.

2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of peroxide to keep them free of germs.

3. Clean your counters and table tops with peroxide to kill germs andleave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when youwipe, or spray it on the counters.

4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it tokill salmonella and other bacteria.

5. I had fungus on my feet for years until I sprayed a 50/50 mixtureof peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night andlet dry.

6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutesseveral times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not healwith any medicine but was healed by soaking in peroxide.

7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water andkeep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septicsystem like bleach or most other Disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixturewhenever you have a cold, plugged sinus. It will bubble and help tokill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes, and then blow your noseinto a tissue.

9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist rightaway, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for tenminutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.

10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through.You will not have the peroxide-burnt blonde hair like the hair dyepackages but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown,reddish, or dirtyblonde. It also lightens gradually, so it's not a drastic change.

11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help get rid ofboils, fungus, or other skin infections.

12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing,pour it directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rubit and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.

13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors. There is no smearing, which iswhy I love it so much for this.

14. Another place it's great is in the bathroom, if someone has beencareless & has peed on the floor around the toilet & it's begun tosmell of urine. Just put some peroxide in a spray bottle & spray. Inthe blinkof any eye all the smell will be gone & the bacteria eliminated!I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should bewithout!With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to savetons of money in such a simple, healthy manner!This information really woke me up. I hope you gain something from it, too.

Pass it on! Clorox vs peroxide VERY interesting and inexpensive

Many of us grew up in the largest generation: the Clorox generation. Our earliest memories of cleaning usually involved using bleach and water. The use of bleach defined cleanliness for us – the stinging nostrils, burning cuticles, and noxious fumes – and yet, no one ever seemed alarmed at its use. Of course, bleach isn't all bad. A bottle of bleach means clean drinking water in many parts of the world, good times in swimming pools, and very white clothing. So, why all the fuss?
Bleach is kryptonite for allergy and asthma suffers. Bleach also mixes with common household cleaning products to create some dangerous situations. Examples? Oh, I got plenty of those!
Mixed with ammonia ... bleach releases a gas that can cause your lungs to stop functioning. Where is ammonia lurking that bleach often mixes with it? Toilets. Urine contains ammonia, right?
Mixed with dish soap ... bleach produces mustard gas. That's right, the stuff from World War I that caused severe chemical burns, conjunctivitis, temporary blindness, bleeding and blistering within the respiratory system, and (in some cases) cancer. Not cool, folks.
Mixed with organic matter ... bleach produces chloroform. Chloroform? Yep. Inhaling chloroform vapors depresses the central nervous system of a patient, causing dizziness, fatigue and unconsciousness. Prolonged exposure can harm necessary (and kind of super-important) organs like your liver, kidneys, and skin. Chloroform is also a cancer-causing toxin.
So, what can we use instead of bleach?? Easy-peasy, y'all!

Here's the recipe:
12 cups water

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 cup hydrogen peroxide
Mix. Add 2 cups per wash load or put in spray bottle and use as a household cleaner.

10 Meals Under $2

How much does it cost to make a meal at home? It may be less than you think. We calculated the costs of 10 popular meals at regular prices, not counting coupons. Good news - not only is it possible to make a many favorite meals for $2 per serving, but some meals are closer to $1 each!
There were some surprises. Plain hamburgers buns cost considerably more than a couple slices of bread. On the other hand, at less than 5 cents per serving, peanut butter is practically free! A $1.49 jar of peanut butter holds 36 servings – enough to help keep the most serious penny pinchers in sack lunches for a month. And no surprise: Chips add little nutrition but cost more than the hamburger buns.

Here’s what it takes to make common meals at home:

To lower costs even more, use coupons, buy in bulk and make meals completely from scratch. Those hamburger buns would cost pennies to bake yourself, and they’d be fresher, too. We used a packaged coleslaw kit, canned refried beans, and bagged corn tortillas – all of which could you could make for even less.
Knowing what it costs to prepare a meal at home, even reasonably price restaurant meals look expensive by comparison. You can make a whole meal with coffee for less than it costs to buy coffee at the drive-through. Or you can pack a turkey sandwich that costs less than the tip you’d leave at a restaurant!
Try calculating the cost of some of your favorite meals. It’s encouraging to know how cheaply you can cook when you need to – and how much you’re really saving when you take time to prepare food yourself.

Angel Food Ministries - A Review

Recently I discovered Angel Food Ministries which is a non-profit, non-denominational, co-op food program designed to help you save on your grocery bill. I had never experienced any kind of co-op program so I didn’t know what to expect. Angel Food Ministries was started in 1994 to help families in need in Monroe, GA suffering due to a plant closing. It has since grown to serve over 500,000 people across 35 states. You don’t have to be economically disadvantaged to participate. This program is for anyone.
The food is purchased in advanced based on orders from customers of Angel Food Ministries allowing them to get co-op pricing. The packages offer both fresh and frozen food as well as canned items and are all “restaurant quality” items. For $30 you can purchase their “signature box” which changes month to month. In August these were the items in my box:

1.5 lbs rib eye boneless steak (4 steaks)-frozen
1 dozen medium white eggs
3 lbs bone-in split chicken breasts with water and sodium phosphate added (frozen)
1 lb long grain white rice
1.6 lb lemon loaf cake (6 slices) -frozen
1 head of iceberg lettuce
2 lbs of sweet potatoes
1 quart shelf stable 2% milk
16 oz frozen baby lima beans
16 oz frozen corn
1 lb fish sticks -frozen
24 oz chicken nuggets -frozen
32 oz macaroni and beef dinner entrée-frozen
1 lb 80/20 ground beef -frozen
16 oz can pork and beans

This package should provide enough food to assist a family of four for a week or a senior citizen for a month. You can also purchase other packages like the Allergen Free Box which holds 5 lbs of frozen meats free of top allergens like peanuts, eggs, soy, etc. This month there is a special holiday box for Thanksgiving available.
Though not every location has online ordering, I was able to place my order on-line quickly. Payment can be by debit or credit card when ordering online. They also take cash, checks, money orders, vouchers, EBT cards and food stamps if ordering by phone or in person. You will pay a $1 fee when ordering online. Once the order for my “signature box” was submitted I received an email confirmation with directions on where to pick it up etc.

When pick-up day came, it was pouring rain and miserably cold. I was cheerfully greeted by an Angel Food volunteer who asked for my name and offered me coffee. Once my order was confirmed, another volunteer told me she would be collecting my order for me and would meet me at the door. The fact that I didn’t have to do the “shopping” myself was great. As soon as my order was double checked, another volunteer told me if I pulled my car up to the door he would put it in the car for me. Well this is service we don’t get in any grocery stores here so I was tickled pink. Based on service alone, Angel Food has the grocery store chains beat!

The overall quality of the food was comparable to grocery store items. The only issue from what I sampled was the head of lettuce was less fresh than I would have liked and my oldest daughter thought the chicken nuggets were intermittently too fatty. The lemon cake was so good my kids asked for more. Although the website says they do purchase “national brands” there were no brand names I recognized.

But the real question is how did the prices compare to grocery store prices? According to the Angel Food Ministries website, their signature box which sells for $30 has a retail value of about $65. At my local Price Chopper I compared their shelf or sale prices to get an idea of whether Angel Food was offering a good value for the money. A few items like the shelf stable milk were difficult to price as that is not an item my store carries. However, based on comparable items and sizes, the total I would spend in Price Chopper for these items was $54.14. Of course this is without coupons and special promotions. If I was shopping for these actual items I would not be purchasing without a coupon or a promotion and any meat I buy would be on manager’s mark down and submitted for a rebate. So can you do better than the $30 for these items? Yes if you are willing to put a little more work into it but a savings of almost 50% is not too bad.
However the price for the family package is definitely a great way to shave some off your grocery bill easily. Especially if you are elderly, disabled or otherwise have a hard time getting to the grocery store or just hate shopping! You are definitely paying for the convenience and you will not necessarily get the national brands you might in the grocery store. However, if you are not brand picky and would rather save on time and take some of the stress out of meal planning, this may be a hot deal for you!
